India and West Indies cricket teams have shared a special relationship. Sunil Gavaskar, who made his first Test debut against the Windies in 1968, has watched with pride as India rose to the top of the world rankings.
A few days ago, it looked as if the Windies might finally get their act together. But, as we’ve all seen before, momentum can be fickle. ODI Series
ODI cricket is one of the most popular forms of the game. It has a faster pace than Test cricket and allows for higher scoring. It also features different rules that make the game more exciting, such as the ability to be dismissed by being bowled, caught, LBW, or run out. The first ODI was not originally planned as an official match, but it became very popular and helped develop the game into what it is today.
Test Series
After a reassuring Test series draw in England in which a revamped group helmed by new skipper Shubman Gill squared the contest, India are poised to take advantage of a depleted West Indies side in the second of their two-Test home rubber. The hosts enter as firm favourites, while the visitors are in disarray with their red-ball form, having lost to Nepal, a team yet to achieve Test status, and whitewashed at home by Australia.
The first Test is set to be held from October 2 to 6 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, while the second will be played from October 10 to 14 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Both Tests will begin at 9:30 AM IST. The series marks the start of India’s 2025-2027 ICC World Test Championship cycle, with both teams earning points towards the final qualifier.
India’s batting is stacked with quality, with captain Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane and KL Rahul all in good touch. The spin department is also strong, with Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja both looking to add more polish to their game.
The only question mark in the batting is at No. 5, where Karun Nair was not particularly impressive during the Test series in England. He may be dropped for a debut in Dhruv Jurel, who has impressed in the ODI format this year.
West Indies, on the other hand, have struggled in all formats. Their T20 side have slumped to a lowest ever Test ranking of seventh, and their recent form in red-ball cricket has been even more alarming. They were thrashed 3-0 by Australia, suffering a collapse in the final Test that saw them score just 27 runs, the second-lowest total in history.
Despite their struggles, the West Indies have some promising youngsters to look out for. Roston Chase and Tagenarine Chanderpaul have been in good form of late, while Darren Bravo, Khary Pierre, and Johann Layne are all aiming to boost the Windies’ bowling attack. The tourists will also be hoping that captain Shamar Joseph returns from injury, but the lower-back strain he picked up in their last match in Bangladesh means that he will miss out on this series.
T20I Series
The ICC World Twenty20 tournament is an international cricket competition. The first tournament was held in South Africa in March 2007. The second ICC World Twenty20 took place in the West Indies in May 2010. The next tournament will be held in India in 2025.
For fans following the India National Cricket Team Vs West Indies Cricket Team Match Scorecard, the upcoming series will provide important insights into the teams’ performances. In the upcoming Test series, Guwahati will host its first-ever Test match. Johann Layne and Khary Pierre will both make their debuts for the West Indies. The first Test will be played on 2 October.
