England’s dominance was largely fueled by India’s lapses in fielding, including dropped catches and general lack of discipline. This coupled with an over-reliance on a few key players exacerbated India’s struggles in the series.

England vs India 1st ODI
England make a solid start to the innings, reaching 51 runs in the first powerplay over. But the momentum doesn’t last long as Jofra Archer dismisses Duckett (45) and Bethell (24) to leave England struggling on 80-5 at the halfway mark.
Root and Liam Dawson then stage a brilliant fightback as the home side ground themselves towards 200, with Joe making his half-century along the way. However, a brilliant catch from Axar Patel sends Dawson back to the pavilion and leaves England with just 258 all out.
Jasprit Bumrah begins the India bowling with a tidy over, conceding just eight runs in his first four overs. The pressure mounts as Prasidh Krishna strikes twice in the 13th over to remove both Buttler (5) and Curran (0). England’s batting struggle continues as Axar Patel also makes his way to the middle, and Jofra Archer soon dismisses him for just 12 runs.
Axar Patel and Washington Sundar then hold the innings together as India’s captain Gill edges closer to another big score. But the innings suffer a major blow when Iyer is run out trying to take a quick single as he falls for 27. Axar and Sundar then take their time and ease India to a comfortable six-wicket victory at Edgbaston.
England vs India 2nd ODI
After India made light work of a daunting-looking task in the opener, England responded emphatically with a four-wicket victory to level the three-match series at 1-1. The home side’s superb bowling attack, spearheaded by Jofra Archer and Gus Atkinson, ripped through the Indian batting to reduce them to 258/6, before Joe Root anchored the chase with an unbeaten 99 that proved decisive.
The England middle order collapsed to 5 for 19 in just 27 balls, but Root and Liam Dawson produced a spirited stand of 121 before the latter was smashed for a six off an overpitched delivery from Gurnoor Brar. That was just a prelude to the ruthless display from Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, who sped off to an unbeaten 80 in just 75 balls to leave England struggling.
Bumrah’s bruising pace was crucial in his seven-wicket haul, while the likes of Ravindra Jadeja and Hardik Pandya chipped in with useful spells. However, the England batsmen were not helped by a sloppy fielding performance, which saw Ben Duckett and Jacob Bethell fall for relatively small scores. Harry Brook’s decision to frontload his pacemen on a bouncy, seaming surface was also a costly error, as he was at least ten overs short of his ideal bowling stocks.
While Kohli may have lacked the sparkle of his best form, he will still be confident that he can steer India to more success in Cardiff, where they have a strong record. However, the visitors’ batting has looked vulnerable over recent times and the absence of KL Rahul due to injury will be an added concern.
For England, the key battle is likely to be at the top of the order, where Eoin Morgan and Alastair Cook both face questions over their futures. The duo will be key to the success of the team in this format, and both are capable of producing big scores. It would be a surprise to see either of them discarded this week, especially given the team’s current run of form.
England vs India 3rd ODI
England won the second one-day international against India at Cardiff by four wickets and have levelled the three-match series at 1-1. The hosts now host the visitors for the third and final ODI at Lord’s, with everything still to play for.
The hosts made a positive start, with openers Sam Curran and Jofra Archer taking two wickets in the first five overs to put pressure on the visitors. But the middle order failed to step up, with Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma falling cheaply. That allowed Jos Buttler and Joe Root to take control, and they added a crucial 76-run partnership.
Buttler was finally dismissed for his maiden ODI hundred, hooking a delivery from Prince Yadav to be caught at deep midwicket. That brought Ben Duckett to the crease, and he is in no mood to slow down. He has hit 15 fours already and is playing at a strike rate of over 100 without taking any risks.
The left-handed batsman has a chance to become the fourth England player to score a hat-trick of hundreds in the format. But he will have to overcome some difficult challenges, including facing Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah, who both bowled well in the second ODI in Cardiff.
In the last 10 overs, India have played a total of 40 dot balls, and that will worry their chasers. They will have to get their act together if they are to reach the target of 388.
A victory will give England their first 3-0 win against India in the format. It will also give them a good chance of securing a place in the Champions Trophy, which begins in June in England and Wales. It will be their first ODI in the tournament since they reached the final in 2017. Buttler’s unbeaten century helped them to beat India in that match, and he can lead the hosts to another triumph here. The ODI starts at 11:00 a.m. BST, and live coverage is available on the Sony Sports network in the UK and on JioHotstar in India.
England vs India 4th ODI
England have been handed a face-saving victory over India by virtue of an unbeaten 99 from Joe Root in the second one-day international in Cardiff. The result takes the series to 2-2 with one match remaining at Headingley on Sunday.
England had looked set for a crushing defeat after conceding 220 on a wicket that offered significant assistance to the spinners at Wankhede Stadium. However, a fine 73-run stand between Jonathan Trott (39) and Kevin Pietersen (41) brought some hope back for the visitors. But once they were removed in quick succession by R Ashwin (lbw) and Praveen Kumar (lbw), the innings crumbled.
Ajinkya Rahane, meanwhile, danced his way to his maiden ODI hundred as he hit a flurry of exquisite strokes to help India through the tricky phase. Despite India losing three top order wickets to Steven Finn, Moeen Ali and Stuart Meaker, Rahane held the innings together with a flurry of boundaries.
But the highlight of the innings was surely Dhawan’s 97 not out off just 62 balls, which was studded with a superb slew of sixes and fours. The innings will go a long way in soothing Dhawan’s nerves over his future in the limited-overs game.
England’s bowlers fought hard but struggled to find the breakthrough. Varun Aaron’s 10 overs yielded only two wickets, but he bowled with great accuracy, regularly reaching speeds of 140 kmph plus. This is a welcome return to form for the debutant, who will be hoping for better things in the remaining match in Leeds.
