India vs Sri Lanka T20I
Defending champions India defeated Sri Lanka by 124 runs in the semi-finals of the Asian Games T20I cricket tournament in Nisshin. Ishan Kishan’s unbeaten 80 helped India put 169/7 on the board before Sri Lanka folded up for a record low score of 45 in just 9.5 overs. The win means that India will play Pakistan for the gold medal in the final on Friday, which is also a World T20 qualifier.
Shubman Gill led the Indian team in absence of regular captain Jasprit Bumrah, while Sri Lanka was missing several key players. However, the Islanders had a few promising youngsters in their ranks. They included uncapped duo Pasindu Sooriyabandara and Keshara Nuwantha who could make their debuts in the two-match Test series in Galle.
The first Test began on August 15 and lasted for five days. The two teams traded hundreds before Sri Lanka’s opener Kusal Mendis suffered a shoulder injury, which forced him to retire hurt on the second day. India’s pace bowlers shone throughout, especially the impressive Manav Suthar, who claimed a maiden 10-wicket haul in Galle.
The second Test is scheduled to begin on August 23 at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo. Both the matches will be broadcast live on Sony Sports Network and can be streamed on the SonyLIV app.
The full schedule of the tour can be found here. The India vs Sri Lanka tour is part of the 2025-27 WTC cycle and will be a crucial test for both sides in their bid to qualify for the World Cup. The two-match series will be followed by a one-off T20I and three ODIs. Both the teams are looking forward to it with great anticipation.
India vs Sri Lanka Test
The Indian batsmen and bowlers once again performed to the best of their abilities in this Test match, as India wrapped up a comprehensive win over Sri Lanka. India won the toss and elected to bat first, which allowed them to amass a huge total of 462 runs in their first innings.
Devdutt Padikkal’s classy 167 helped them reach the milestone easily, while fifties from Rahul and Dhruv Jurel also came in handy. In reply, Sri Lanka looked down and out when they were reduced to 90/5 on the second morning. However, Dhananjaya Dickwella and Sonal Dinusha managed to halt the slide and take the visitors close to victory.
But it was not to be as Manav Suthar finally got his maiden 10-wicket haul in the game, allowing India to wrap up a massive victory with over 10 overs to spare.
The whole Indian dressing room celebrates this and the elation is obvious on their faces. The players fist pump each other and give hugs as they head back to the changing rooms. Bowling coach Morne Morkel and fielding coach Subhadeep Ghosh are given warm greetings as well.
The highlight of the day was Dhananjaya Dickwella’s spirited unbeaten 146-run partnership with Sonal Dinusha. The pair kept the Indian bowlers at bay, with Dickwella batting calmly to score his second century of the series.
He was eventually dismissed by Jadeja, but his efforts helped Sri Lanka avoid the follow-on and salvage a draw from a challenging situation.
