RCB vs GT Qualifier 1

The stage is set for one of the biggest clashes in this season’s Indian Premier League playoffs when defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) take on Gujarat Titans (GT) in Qualifier 1 at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala. The winner of the match will secure a direct spot in the final while the loser will have to go through Qualifier 2.

RCB unleashed a relentless, record-breaking performance to crush GT by 92 runs in their first meeting in the tournament’s knockout phase on Tuesday night. Captain Rajat Patidar’s ruthless unbeaten 93 helped them post the highest team total in IPL playoff history (254 for five), and then their bowlers ran through GT’s top order to seal a colossal victory.

Former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull believes RCB would be wise to continue with Venkatesh Iyer as the opening partner for Virat Kohli in Tuesday’s match against Gujarat. Doull also said it would not be easy for England batter Phil Salt to return immediately after a lengthy injury break, and the IPL playoffs are not the best place to test his fitness.

But he said that Iyer’s record of scoring 50-plus in each of his last four IPL playoff matches showed that he is the right opener for RCB. “Iyer has been in good form and his partnership with Kohli is very strong,” Doull added.

The match will feature two of the most explosive batting lineups in IPL history, but Dahiya believes that bowling could play a crucial role in the outcome. He pointed out that the HPCA pitch in Dharamsala typically offers good bounce and carry to fast bowlers early on, particularly under lights. But batsmen can also score freely once the dew sets in, and chasing sides have often enjoyed success at the venue.

Dahiya believes that RCB’s more rounded seam attack will give them an advantage over GT in exploiting the venue’s decisive powerplay, while their experienced spinners can also be effective on this surface. However, he said that the game will also be decided by how well the two teams’ fielders can contain the threat posed by their opponents’ attacking batsmen.

RCB vs GT Qualifier 2

Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru shattered Gujarat Titans’ hopes of a back-to-back title in IPL 2026 with a ruthless display of bowling and batting on Tuesday at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala. Skipper Rajat Patidar led the way with a blistering unbeaten 93, but it was RCB’s bowlers who made the difference. A disciplined attack ripped through GT’s top three inside the powerplay and ensured they never took the game in their hands.

Sai Sudharsan’s bizarre dismissal summed up a night where little went right for GT, as his bat slipped out of his hand while attempting a shot off Jacob Duffy (3/39) and crashed into the stumps. This was followed by Shubman Gill’s wicket in the next over, which shifted the momentum firmly in RCB’s favour.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2/28) continued his purple-cap assault with a sharp spell of new ball bowling, while Hazlewood and Rasikh Salam Dar maintained the pressure with their economical work.

A spirited fightback from Rahul Tewatia saw GT close on 51/5, but a target of 254 was always going to be too steep. In the face of such a daunting task, it was clear that the Titans needed a fast start. However, that was snuffed out within the first five overs when both in-form openers fell cheaply, with Jos Buttler failing to get to grips with a disciplined bowling attack.

While the focus will be on Kohli, RCB’s batting lineup should not be overlooked. Their depth, flexibility and power gives them a good chance of recovering from difficult situations. The side is one of the most balanced in the tournament and should not have to rely solely on Kohli’s brilliance to win big matches.

RCB have been one of the most consistent teams in recent years, reaching four playoffs in a row. They have a good chance of adding to their tally this year and will be boosted by the return of captain Virat Kohli to the side after his absence due to injury. The winner of Qualifier 1 will secure a direct place in the final, while the losing team will have another chance to reach the summit clash by winning the Eliminator between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals on Thursday.

RCB vs GT Final

RCB have had to deal with some off-field issues this season, but their performances on the field have been top-notch. Despite losing the opening two games, they made amends by winning their next three. Then they lost a game in Mumbai, but still managed to win Qualifier 1 and the final to finish as table-toppers. Now they have a chance to make history by becoming the first team to defend their title.

The defending champions were in total control in the final and eased to victory in front of their home fans at Chinnaswamy. They played a disciplined innings, and even though they lost a few wickets in the middle phase, they never allowed GT to catch up. Sai Sudharsan’s brilliant century laid the foundation, but a well-judged batting display from Tim David and Devdutt Padikkal along with late flourishes from Krunal Pandya saw them cross the line comfortably.

RCB have now qualified for the final, and will take on the winner of tomorrow’s Eliminator between RR and SRH. The match will be held in Ahmedabad on May 31.
